"We train our bodies...to condition our minds"

What We Teach

What Do We Teach
When people are faced with stressful situations, their natural instincticts of “fight” or “flight”are triggered. Our curriculum instills confidence in our students to make the decision of “fight” or “flee”, and gives them the tools necessary to be successful in implementing that decision.

Xeiron's Academy teaches a form of pankration. Pankration was an ancient Olympic sport and greco-roman martial art. Pankration incorporates:

In addition, we incorporate some of the running, leaping, balancing and rolling techniques from Parkour. These techniques are geared towards teaching students to overcome, explicitly, physical obstacles, and, implicitly, psychological obstacles. These skills are taught in a dynamic environment, to encourage students to think on "their feet" and adapt to changing circumstances. They will train with partners and training aids including punching bags, focus mitts and kicking shields.

More than Martial Arts
We do more than just teach students how to "defend themselves". We teach them to think and adapt.
We also instill a code of conduct in the students. Students are expected to respect themselves and respect others. At the end of the day, whether a student uses the martial arts or not, will be their choice. Through examples and allegories, we strive to instill a sense of responsibility for their actions and to use the skills they are taught only when it is appropriate to do so.

We also strive to teach students the reality that anything worth having is worth working hard for. Too many martial arts schools are “belt factories” that strive to run kids through a set program in order to collect more testing fees. This process is justified as instilling "confidence" in the student. We disagree. This belt factory mentality instills arrogance, a false expectation that things will be just given, or things are "earned" through minimal effort. Further, it makes the students believe that the are self-entitled and completely unprepared for when "things do not come easy" or go wrong.
